HORTICULTURE
Departmental Activities:
- Rythu Barosa: Impelenting Rythu Barosa the Govt,Flagship Programme to all the eligible farmers in Coordination with Agriculture Department.
- e-Karshak: In order to update village wise horticulture farmers data, village level field surveys are being conducted and the same is being uploaded in e Crop website so that farmers can benefits of all Govt Sponsored Schemes like Rythy Barosa, Insurance, Compensation for Crop lossed during Natural Calamities etc.
- Natural Calamties: To conduct enumeration of Horticulture crops damages occurs due to Cyclones Heavy Rains, Winds, Godavari Floods and unforeseen Calamities.
- Crop Cutting Experiments: To conduct Crop Cutting experiments at village level in horticulture crops to obtain yields inorder to maintain National crop production details which will be useful in calculating Gross Value Addition ( GVA).
- YSR Thotabadi: Educating farmers & field level Functionaries on good Horticulture practices timely guidance in adopting season bound cultural practices.
- NMEO-OP( National Mission on Edible Oils- Oil Palm): To bring additional area under Oil Palm cultivation thereby ensuring self Sustainability in edible oil production.
- To bring additional area under Fruit (Perennial / Non perennial) and plantation crops.
- High density planting system in Fruit crops and Permanent pendal system in Vegetable cultivation to enhance productivity
- Promotion of intercrops like Cocoa in Coconut and Oil palm gardens to enhance economic status of farmers
- Laying of Demonstration plots, Rejuvenation & Replanting in Coconut
- To identify the farmers and to motivate them to adopt Micro Irrigation and fertigation systems in order to increase productivity up to 50% to the normal.
- Integrated Pest/Nutrient Management (IPM/INM): In order to lower the incidence of the pest and diseases in Mango, Cashew, Coconut, Chillies and Vegetables, IPM is being implemented as per the recommendations of Dr. YSR Horticulture University. And to increase productivity & to reduce nutritional losses of Horticulture crops ,INM is to be implemented through fertigation
- Horticulture mechanization: To tackle the scarcity of labour availability and to conduct timely operations, farmers are being encouraged by providing subsidy on various Horticulture implements like Mini Tractors, Power Tillers, Rotavators, Power weeders, Brush cutters, Chaff cutters and Plant protection equipment like Thaiwan sprayers, mounted sprayers.
- Bee Keeping: To maintain Bee colonies commonly in man mad hives to collect Pure & Quality honey, other products like bees wax, propolis.
- Protected Cultivation: To encourage year around cultivation of High value vegetables and High value Flowers, Poly Houses and Shade net houses are being established with the assistance provided by Department.
- Horticulture Development Agency: Production of quality grafts of various Varieties of Horticulture Crops through Horticulture Development Agency in order to supply to farming communities.
- Formation of FPOs for the horticulture farmers based on crops cultivated to promote cluster level cultivation & to provide hand holding support in agronomic practices, crop planning, production & productivity enhancement interventions and also to coordinate with FPO promoting agencies & also to strengthen them by providing assistance to establish Collection Centres & Cold Rooms( Agri Infra Structure Fund) & Processing units etc for providing technical and financial support through Department of Horticulture.
- Post Harvest Management: To provide infrastructure assets like Pack houses, Collection, Grading, Packing units, Pre cooling Chambers ,Solar dryers ,Cold storages etc in order reduce post harvest losses.
- Marketing:To market and sell the produce at farmer level & avoid middlemen providing Vending Vans, Retail Outlets and other infrastructure facility to farmers& FPOs.
- To create awareness in farmers for registration with APEDA in order to export their produce in global markets
- Valu addition: To create value addition to produce, when lack of demand in the market , providing primary processing units, Mango jelly units, Mango Pickle units etc.are proposed to be established through AP Food processing Society.
- Plant Protection : To interact with farmers and visit horticulture orchards to check and assist farmers in controlling all the pests and diseases without any time lapse..
- Trainings & Exposure visits to farmers: To acquaint farmers on latest Technologies and to create awareness on proven methods of cultivation and Post Harvest Management aspects in Horticulture crops.
Brief notes on State Govt. schemes implemented:
The following are the Centrally Sponsored Sate Govt. Schemes.
- Rastriya krishi Vikaas Yojana(RKVY): The components like Protected Cultivation( Poly houses, Shadene Houses),Post Harvest Management(Plastic crates, Pack Houses, Ripening Chambers, Cold Storages, Precooling units etc),Processing units( Cashew processing units, Primary Processing units , Mango Jelly units,Setc),Retail Outlets ,Vegetable cultivation progrmmes etc. are being implemented under this scheme.
- National Food Security Mission – Oil Palm (NFSM-OP):The Components like Area expansion of Oil Palm,2nd,3rd,4th year maintenances & intercrops ,Chaff cutters, Harvesting poles, Vermi compost units, Bore well, Electrical pump sets Etc. are being implemented under this scheme.
- Horticulture Development Agency: Production of quality grafts of various Varieties of Horticulture Crops through Horticulture Development Agency in order to supply to farming communities.
